UAL Showcase Collections
Featured by Isabel Sachs, Founder of I LIKE NETWORKING, in the UAL showcase collection Power of Connections:
“This invention sounds like something we all need to do: get out of the digital world and create some different forms of connections. It’s a really playful way to remind us that there’s a world outside and we are part of something.” – Isabel Sachs

Sounteract Version 1.0
We prioritised auditory experiences, as sound is one of the most effective sensory pathways for capturing attention and influencing behaviour. Through a series of rapid prototypes and user testing, we explored what types of sounds are both suitable and impactful. This led to the development of a functional prototype that uses a ticking sound with a changing rhythm to enhance users’ time awareness while scrolling and gently prompt them to shift their attention to other activities.

Sensory Workshop & Solution Define
During the CCW Community Festival, we hosted digital detox workshops and co-created with 18 participants to explore mindful digital behaviours through sensory interactions using everyday objects. From this, we defined our core design question: How might we utilise multisensory interactions to motivate users to shift their attention away from the screen?

Problem Study
Through our first-hand research, we found that 78% of participants wished to reduce the time they spend on social media, and 55% expressed interest in tools to help modify their digital behaviour. This led us to frame our initial design question: How might we reduce excessive scrolling behaviour to support long-term mental and physical well-being?

Team Assemble
Juju and Loki reconnected at the University of the Arts London after first collaborating during their internships in 2019. They discovered a shared interest in exploring how unbalanced digital behaviours can negatively impact neurodivergent individuals—and how to design solutions that help mitigate these effects.
